User ratings
User ratings let your visitors rate movies, TV shows and collections from 1 to 10. This page explains who can vote, how the rating of each title is calculated with the IMDb and TMDb ratings, and where ratings appear.
Overview
Your visitors can rate your titles from 1 to 10. Each title shows the average rating and its number of votes, and your theme can use them to sort titles and show top-rated lists.
Ratings work on movies, TV shows and collections. Your theme shows the rating widget on the pages where you want visitors to vote.
Who can vote
- Members with an account. They vote once per title and can change their vote at any time. They can also remove it from their account.
- Visitors without an account. Dbmovies recognizes them with a cookie for 30 days, so they also vote once per title and can change their vote during that time.
How the rating is calculated
The rating of a title is the average of all its votes, with one decimal. When you import a title, its IMDb rating and its TMDb rating are added as one vote each. So:
- a title you just imported already has a rating (the average of its IMDb and TMDb ratings) and 2 votes;
- each visitor vote is added to that average.
When the Meta Updater refreshes a title, it updates its IMDb and TMDb ratings, and the average with them. Visitor votes are kept.
For example, a movie with IMDb 8.0 and TMDb 7.6 starts at 7.8 with 2 votes. If a visitor rates it 10, it moves to 8.5 with 3 votes.
Members' ratings in their account
Members find all the titles they rated in their account. In Wovie, it is Account › Ratings, with:
- their number of ratings and their average;
- their latest ratings and their top ratings;
- the full list, sorted by date or score and filtered by movies or TV shows.
From there they can remove a rating.
Ratings in the admin
The Ratings column of the Movies, TV Shows and Collections lists shows the rating and the votes of each title, and you can sort by it. See Movies.
Collections can also list their titles by rating. See Collections.

Security
Each vote carries a security token of its page, so votes cannot be sent from outside your site, and only scores from 1 to 10 are accepted. A member can only change or remove their own votes.
